Reading

Reading regularly is paramount as reading is a transferable skill across all areas of the curriculum. It is really important that your child is reading at home so that they are improving their fluency and comprehension skills and consolidating what has been taught in class. To show your child is reading at home, please sign their reading records. For your child to be entered into the Amazon book voucher draw in the celebration assembly they need to have read at least four times per week and have their bookmarks (handed out on a Friday) signed by an adult.

Please see below the reading objectives for Years 5 and 6.

Spelling

Children will be introduced and taught a new spelling rule each week. We do not test the class weekly on their spellings, instead we will be looking for them in their writing to see whether they can use and spell these correctly in context. The children will also practise the Year 5 and 6 statutory spellings through weekly handwriting sessions. Please see these spellings below.

Maths

Reminder - your child can use their Times Table Rockstar logins to practise key times table skills at home.

End of year expectations for Year 6

This document provides information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for Year 6. The National Curriculum outlines these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child should meet in order to ensure continued progress.

All the objectives will be worked on throughout the year and will be the focus of direct teaching. Any extra support you can provide in helping your children to achieve these is greatly valued.

If you have any queries regarding the content of this information or want support in knowing how best to help your child, please come and ask and I will be happy to help.

Support from home

We do not have homework but there is an expectation that the children practise their spellings, times tables and read regularly. There may be times though throughout the year where children are asked to do a project to support there understanding of a topic.

P.E.

Our PE days are on a Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor). Please ensure that your child comes to school in a P.E. kit that is suitable for colder weather. Please also make sure that long hair is tied back on these days and any jewellery is removed.

PSHE

Please see below the curriculum map of what your child will be learning across the year.
