Curriculum Policy

CURRICULUM INTENT

The intent of our curriculum is to provide our children with the opportunities to be inquisitive and confident learners. We want our children to understand:

• The behaviours and creative processes that shaped our world
• The complexities of the cultures and environments that exist in our world
• How and why things are the same or different
• The intricacies of the plants and animals that inhabit our world
• The importance of investigation and how this has led to significant change
• How and why those changes happened
• Our place in God’s world

We want our children to be resilient learners that flourish within our Christian ethos

Our curriculum will give our children the opportunity to:

• See clear links between different aspects of their learning
• Experience the challenge and enjoyment of learning
• Develop a rich and deep subject knowledge
• Develop and demonstrate their creativity
• Develop new skills through a variety of interesting contexts
• Understand the purpose and value of their learning and see its relevance to their past, present and future
• Explore the breadth and depth of the National Curriculum

We want our children to be active learners that challenge their own ideas and those of others. We want to feed inquisitive natures and instil a lifelong love of learning. We want to build the skills which will allow our children to flourish in the world and for them to grow spiritually and emotionally. We want to produce courageous advocates that can make links and revel in the joy of knowledge.

From the summer term 2021 we are following Cornerstones Maestro Curriculum.   This is a cross curricular, thematic curriculum that allows children to learn in context.  The children undertake projects that are termly or half termly that include a range of learning styles and cover multiply curriculum subjects.
